This is not a promoted article.
As some of you could see it on my personal Instagram account, I am (finally !) going to Afropunk Paris. And it is only 2 weeks away !
What is so special about Afropunk ?
To that question, I could answer « nothing, really » but History and context keep proving that this kind of spaces are essential for our community.
As a black person, you can feel sometimes alienated in today’s world, depending on how you identify but also because of your cultural tastes (you like rock’n’roll but you’re told that « that’s not a black thing » or that « you’re like a nerd »).
Afropunk is a platform promoting black culture in its many forms, whether it’s through music, movies, fashion, etc., and giving a different approach on topics and issues among the community. From the same idea, the Afropunk festival was created as a common and safe space where one can discover and enjoy the diversity of black culture.
This annual event takes place in major cities such as Atlanta, Brooklyn, Johannesburg & Paris throughout the year.

Feel free to visit Afropunk.com to read their articles and learn more about them. You can also follow them on Instagram & Facebook !
Let’s not forget the line up !

Once again, Afropunk is bringing great artists, which is one of the reasons I was dying to go. I won’t name them all but among this year headliners are Janelle Monae, Raphael Saadiq, Solange, Ibeyi, Lizzo etc.
Just in case, and because the internets are magical, I’ve found the playlist below for us to [re]discover some of these artists if we feel like it. No need to say I can’t wait to see them perform !
